Artist Of The Day: Mansions

I can honestly say that Mansions's upcoming record Doom Loop may very well be my most anticipated record of all time. Dig Up The Dead slowly but surely moved towards the top of my list of favorite albums, and at this moment I consider Mansions my favorite band of all time. The band has so far released one track off the record, and if "Climbers" is a representation of the overall sound of the album, we should expect a combination of the distorted crunch of Dig Up The Dead with the catchiness of New Best Friends, creating almost a perfect middle point between the albums. Based on "Climbers" and the other two live tracks that Christopher Browder and company have been playing for over a year now, there's very little chance that Doom Loop isn't one of the best albums of 2013. Stream "Climbers" right here, and be sure to follow the band's Facebook page for more details on the album.

Live Review: Taking Back Sunday with Bayside (Fillmore Detroit, 10/7/12)

Adam Lazzara
Photo cred: Jim Altier
I'd never been inside the Fillmore Detroit before going inside on October 7 to see Taking Back Sunday's "Tell All Your Friends 10" tour but I definitely hope it won't be the last. The acoustics were great, the tiered seating in General Admission was pretty cool and the amount of space was fantastic. Even Bayside's Anthony Raneri was wowed by the Detroit architecture inside. However, I didn't go to admire the wonderful interior of the venue: I went to absorb as much as I could of Taking Back Sunday's set- and it seemed everyone else there did too.

Interview With Mansions, Round Two

We previously interviewed Christopher Browder of Mansions back in April of last year, and what a year it's been for him. Anyone who listened to his latest album Dig Up The Dead absolutely fell in love with it, just as I did, putting it at #5 on the list of my favorite albums of 2011. Mansions is now prepping to record a new album, and we talked to Chris about how the new album may sound, as well as touring with William Beckett, the reasons for making the acoustic version of Dig Up The Dead publicly available, news that the long rumored split with John Nolan may actually begin to surface in the next few weeks, and much much more which you can read below.

MuzikDizcovery Recreations: Mansions - Blackest Sky

We're starting a new series here on MuzikDizcovery called MuzikDizcovery Recreations. Bands will be recreating their own tracks by changing the arrangements, tempo, or other things, or by covering a song in their own style. If you want to be part of this series, please email me at caseywhitman@muzikdizcovery.com, and we will work this out.

Before Mansions' show at Jammin Java on January 20th, Chris sat down with us to be part of the first edition of MuzikDizcovery Recreations. He decided to recreate the crunchy distorted guitars of "Blackest Sky" with a little keyboard, which you can watch below. You can also watch a video (taken from Youtube) of him performing "Blackest Sky" in the original way. Let us know what you think of the recreated version in the comments. Check out Mansions on Facebook here.

Casey's End Of The Year Extravaganza

More than likely this is going to be a clusterfuck of information, so I'll keep this intro short. Below, I've put together a list of my favorite EPs, albums, and songs of 2011. My tastes have widened drastically this year, so much that I currently have over 9000 songs in my library just from 2011. While the top of my lists focus more on my customary pop punk and pop rock realms, the deeper cuts of my lists are full of albums that before this year I never would have expected to like. Fireworks, The Wonder Years, Childish Gambino, M83, Farewell Fighter, Yellowcard, SBTRKT, and many more can be seen below. For a Spotify playlist containing the songs of the year list, click right here.

I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody's Business Show Review

Ace Enders is one of the elder statesmen of the scene right now. Since starting The Early November ten years ago, Ace has been in three bands, as well as become a spokesman for the downtrodden musician in his multiple interviews about not being able to afford many things in life. In a move that would be expected of the fan centered Enders, he allowed fans to pay-what-you-want for tickets at his latest show, as well as shirts and selling raffle tickets to win the guitar he uses during the specific show. Enders also had a "meet and greet" before the show, where he simply had a casual conversation with his fans. Ace's performance (as well as the rest of the bands) overshadowed the lack of people in the crowd, and the ones who showed received a performance not to be forgotten.

Interview With Christopher Browder (Mansions)

Christopher Browder is the voice and mind behind Mansions. The band just released their newest album titled Dig Up The Dead on April 5th, and it has gotten plenty of acclaim around these parts. Christopher took some time out of his day to chat with us, as we discussed the progression from New Best Friends to Dig Up The Dead, future plans, the personal feelings behind some of the lyrics, the acoustic version of the record, and many more things that can be seen after the jump.

Album Review: Mansions - Dig Up The Dead

It's not easy to make an album this dark so beautiful. Christopher Browder, the brainchild of Mansions, must have had quite a difficult life to create such a depressingly personal album. From the hopeless vocals similar to Jesse Lacey, to the lo-fi grungy guitar riffs, to the downtrodden lyrics, Browder creates an album that might not strike a casual listener as something pretty. But if one listens intently, he or she will discover the true depth of Dig Up The Dead.

Mansions Album Announcement

I was a bit late to the party in finding out about Mansions. Thanks to Rdio, I've been taking listens to albums that I had heard good things about. Mansions' latest full length New Best Friends is absolutely exceptional, as an emotionally driven rock record similar to a more upbeat The Republic of Wolves or Brand New. How coincidental is it that I found out Mansions just announced that their new album, Dig Up The Dead, will be out April 5th. I am anxiously awaiting a new song to see if my current Mansions kick will continue throughout the year. Follow the band's process on Myspace here.
