Live Review: A Great Big Pile Of Leaves, The Ottobar (8/14/13)
On a Topshelf Records lineup dominated by emo bands, A Great Big Pile Of Leaves is a bit of an oddball. In contrast to the raw emotion of Pianos Become The Teeth or the ambient twinkly soundscapes of The World Is A Beautiful Place, the band embraces a far more accessible indie pop sound. With a knack for massive hooks while surrounding them with multilayered harmonies and sophisticated guitar parts, the band actually has the greatest potential for overall success on the Topshelf roster. If they keep cranking out on performances like their recent gig at the Ottobar, they should top the Topshelf food chain in no time.

Artist Of The Day: A Great Big Pile Of Leaves
We've been big supporters of A Great Big Pile Of Leaves for years, having interviewed them twice in the past three years, so it's unsurprising that I was very highly anticipating the group's sophomore LP and Topshelf debut record You're Always On My Mind. Three extra years as a band plus more advanced studio work has added the necessary to polish to their sound to push the band to the next level, cementing the release as one of the stronger ones to be put out so far in 2013. The fluttering guitar parts have been pushed further into the front, turning the record into a showcase for guitarists Peter Weiland and Matt Fazzi (formerly of Taking Back Sunday). The band's signature groove hasn't been abandoned either, and only helps insert both energy and a catchiness that will make You're Always On My Mind rule your summer evenings. Be sure to grab the album on Topshelf Records, and stream it on the label's Bandcamp page.

Interview With A Great Big Pile Of Leaves, Round Two
One of the first interviews we did here at MuzikDizcovery was with A Great Big Pile Of Leaves. Since then, the band has gained quite a fanbase, while headlining a tour that also included MuzikDizcovery favorites Young Statues and Mansions and releasing two EPs on Topshelf Records. The band is now gearing up to release their second full length record in the coming months, and that should continue to launch this great band to new heights. On their last date with Cheap Girls and The Front Bottoms, the guys sat down to take some questions from us regarding topics such as the improvements from the debut to the new album, their Making Moves 7", Matt Fazzi's addition to the band, a possible vinyl issue of The Fiery Works, and much more that you can read below.

Interview with A Great Big Pile Of Leaves
On the November 12th date of A Great Big Pile Of Leaves tour with Motion City Soundtrack, Say Anything, and Saves the Day, the band agreed to do an interview with us (myself and my photographer, Andrea). The band is definitely full of very talented people and the band has a bright future ahead.
