2013: Jonny's Top Albums, Songs & Live Shows

Jonny's Top Everything of 2013

10 Songs, 15 Live Shows and 50 Albums

Hasn't 2013 been great? Ignoring the fact no real classics have come out, it's really hard to complain. Daft Punk and Boards of Canada came back from the dead, Justin Bieber announced his impending retirement and someone threw eggs at Simon Cowell. It's also great because the world was supposed to end last year, so I guess we're all still running off the high from that.

Looking at these lists, they're a little weighted. The songs list is mostly electronic and the albums are almost entirely ambient, so while I tried to be objective it obviously hasn't worked as well as I'd hoped. Still, I rate how I feel; and apparently I either feel mellow or hyper. Anything in between is for people who vote Lib Dem and listen to Enya.

Best Of The Year 2013: First Quarter Update

As we've done every three months since the beginning of 2011, we will again be doing quarterly updates in 2013. All of the staff here at MuzikDizcovery listed our top five albums that we've heard so far in 2013, and wrote up little blurbs about why we love these albums. We really hope you check out the albums on our lists, as I'm sure most of them are very dear to us. There's a very wide variety of music that you'll find on these lists, as groups such as Owel, Autre Ne Veut, Justin Timberlake, K Sera, The Story So Far, My Bloody Valentine, Youth Lagoon, Foals and Frightened Rabbit all have mentions from at least two of our staff members, so we guarantee that there will be at least one artist on here that you will end up loving. Check out all of our lists below.

Album Review: My Bloody Valentine - m b v

Album Rating: B+
I wonder what would happen if we brought Monet back to life. Suspend your disbelief for a moment and imagine with me. Out of the cloning center he strides, scratching his beard, scruffy as ever, as we watch on intently. He’s locked away in his studio apartment for weeks (painting, we presume,) his publicist or roommate or mailman emerging every now and then to tell us he’s burned another canvas or he’s working on the finishing touches. And then, it happens. The news starts flooding in as we furiously reload the front page of New Art Express.com. “Is it going to look like the poppies?” someone cries. “I hope it’s more like the water lilies,” says another. Meanwhile, I’m wondering how, in an endless slush of lonely housewife imitators and $10 coffee-store prints, our hero could ever hope to be as relevant alive as he was dead.
